Wednesday, June 26, 2024 – Midtown Manhattan:
The FDNY and NYPD rushed to the corner of Fifth Avenue at 30th Street on Wednesday late morning to extinguish a van fire.
As this incident is under investigation by the fire marshal, there are few details other than what observers on the scene notes.
APB News on the scene heard the sounds of loud booms and the engine exploding which could be heard for blocks when the van and the tires exploded. It took nearly 30 minutes for the fire department to put out the flames and then another 20 minutes to cut the van open to explore the inside.
A passerby said he saw trash inside the van when it was opened. The city towed away the debris after it cooled down.
There were no reports of any injuries from the first responders who were in the neighborhood.
This is a developing story.
