Final preparations are now underway for New Year’s Eve, the iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball was illuminated and sent up the 139-foot pole atop One Times Square this afternoon.
Colonel Jack Jacobs, a Medal of Honor Recipient, will flip the giant switch to initiate the spectacular, kaleidoscope lighting effects, illuminated by more than 32 thousand energy efficient LEDs and enhanced by 2,688 crystal triangles.
APB News was invited to take the elevator ride up to see the Ball which is capable of displaying a palette of more than 16 million vibrant colors and billions of patterns that creates the spectacular kaleidoscope effect atop One Times Square.
The other day, CleanBoss co-founders Joy Mangano and Pitbull joined the co-organizers of Times Square New Year’s Eve to help install newly designed Crystal Triangles on the New Year’s Eve Ball.
Pitbull, a GRAMMY®-winning artist and entrepreneur, urged his followers to celebrate with a healthy start to the new year.
The New Year’s Eve Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter, and weighs 11,875 pounds. The Ball is covered with a total of 2,688 crystal triangles that vary in size, and range in length from 4 3/4 inches to 5 3/4 inches per side. For Times Square 2025, all 2,688 crystal triangles that adorn the Ball will be replaced for this New Year’s Eve celebration, showcasing one of two special patterns that highlight what’s to come at One Times Square.
