Mixed in with the rain was APB News this morning as the multicolored confetti from the Center Stage blew out to test that everything is in order for New Year's Eve. The colorful event is held in preparation for the release of 3,000 pounds of confetti when the clock strikes 12 midnight.

For 122 years, Times Square has been the center of worldwide attention on New Year’s Eve, ever since the owners of One Times Square began in 1904 to conduct rooftop celebrations to greet the New Year. The first Ball Lowering celebration occurred in 1907, and this tradition is now a universal symbol of welcoming the New Year.

For the first time ever, a surprise second ceremonial celebration will follow the traditional midnight countdown, officially welcoming 2026 and the start of the Semiquincentennial year.

At approximately 12:04 a.m. EST, the Times Square Ball will be relit in a red, white, and blue America250 design and rise above illuminated “2026” numerals. The moment will include a new video “America Turns 250,” a first-ever post-midnight release of 2,000 pounds of red, white, and blue confetti, and a dynamic pyro finale set to Ray Charles’ rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

This New Year’s Eve moment reflects deep collaboration among America250, One Times Square, and the Times Square Alliance, reinforcing the partnerships guiding the Semiquincentennial.

Anticipation for the post-midnight moment will build throughout the evening with a series of America250 features, beginning at 6:04 PM ET with the reveal of the America250 Ball Design atop One Times Square during “The Star-Spangled Banner.” As the countdown approaches, at approximately 11:15 PM, Chair Rosie Rios will invite Americans to take part in America Gives, America250’s newest initiative aimed at making 2026 the largest year of service ever recorded.

America250 is also revealing that the decorated Times Square Ball will drop again on July 3, 2026, marking the first time in history the Ball drops outside of New Year’s Eve. The Fourth of July countdown moment will anchor America250’s nationwide Independence Day celebrations and reinforce New York City’s central role in the nation’s Semiquincentennial.

NY Young Republican Club Fends off Controversial Gala | APB News

During the FIFA World Cup Draw in Washington, D.C., guests were treated to sculptures of the world’s greatest soccer players screaming out “GOAL!”

These plaster head busts were created by master craftsman Dante Mortet who proudly showed off what each player looked like after penetrating the defense and placing the ball in the net.

This one time art exhibition by Italian sculptor pays tribute to soccer icons, such as Pele, Maradona, David Beckham, and more.

These masterpieces were commissioned by Ambassador Paulo Zampolii, who is the United States special envoy for global partnerships.

Dante was hard at work for months with his son Lorenzo in the workshop that was started by his family 150 years ago applying his craft the old-fashioned way, with eyes and hands, no computers or 3-D printers.

Dante Mortet is the heir of a dynasty of artists and craftsmen with distant origins: the Mortet family moved to Italy from France in the mid-1800s. The Mortet workshop was founded in Florence by Aurelio Mortet, with some of his children taking up wood carving, while Armando and Dante specialized in the art of chiseling.

Now the works will be on display at various events next year when the World Cup begins in North America.

Greatest Soccer Players Ever Come to Life with Special Exhibition

The FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage has been mapped out during a dazzling Final Draw at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

The World Cup will be hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. It will involve 48 teams and 104 games in 16 cities across North America - with 78 of the 104 games occurring in the United States.

The 12 groups were drawn by former England captain Rio Ferdinand, with sporting icons Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Aaron Judge and Shaquille O’Neal serving as assistants. So was this the wake up call that the Republicans did not take seriously in the last four months? Or is the new playbook to energize young first time voters whose parents moved to New York City and do not feel a part of the previous fabric of society?

This was the talk and the buzz at the Andrew Cuomo Manhattan headquarters as members of the media and supporters watched the overhead video screens wondering what all of this will mean for the City and where it will go next in the country.

Tempers did flare when the discussion centered on what republican candidate Curtis Sliwa should have done when the party asked - withdraw from the race and help move his supporters to Cuomo - but Curtis is Curtis and vowed he would never quit.

Curtis stayed in to the end and got just 7 percent of the vote compared to more than 50 percent for Mamdani and over 41 percent for the former governor.

So would Curtis dropping out weeks ago have mattered? Depends on who you ask at this point.

So while it was sad to see how Andrew Cuomo has most likely ended his long political career - he handled his concession speech in a dignified manner wishing the mayor elect the very best as it directly affects the lives of New Yorkers.

Cuomo did make it clear that he felt a strong need to run and this was a battle that needed to happen for many personal and civic reasons.

Now onto Brooklyn, where the 34 year old incoming mayor of the financial capital of the world will have his work cut out for him - being the first ever Muslim mayor of this diverse city, the youngest in over 100 years and at the crossroads of everything including what his relationship with Donald Trump will be.

So as Andrew Cuomo thanked his supporters and headed off to figure out what he will do next, Curtis Sliwa has some serious soul searching and fence mending to do.

Well a lot happened during the final debate between the New York City mayoral candidates at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City.

Let's start with some key moments from an intense night - with a lot of the line with just days to go.

After a week of intense pressure from all sides for Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate, to drop out of the race and encourage his followers to vote for Andrew Cuomo, the founder of the Guardian Angels reaffirmed his position on this…

Then a sneak attack - when the Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani invited Charlotte Bennett to be in the audience. Mamdani then turned to Cuomo, and asked about all of the sexual harassment complaints filed against him which forced Cuomo to resign as the New York governor - a move that Cuomo now regrets since all of the cases have been either dismissed or never prosecuted.

Ms. Bennett sued the then governor in federal court back in 2022, but she dropped that lawsuit against him two years later, just two days before she was scheduled to offer sworn testimony.

In the press room after the debate, former Cuomo consultant Karen Hinton recirculated claims about the former governor's supposed behavior while in the state house.

The governor has also always denied Hinton’s claims of unwanted and unprovoked advances.

And in an explosive and well rehearsed barrage from Cuomo on Mamdani, the 67 year old Queens native challenged the 34 year old Ugandan native’s work experience - to manage a complex city of this size.

So, with Mayor Adams now endorsing former Governor Cuomo, what will that mean for Curtis Sliwa?

Earlier this summer, President Donald Trump threatened to arrest and deport ‘socialist’ New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, after he voiced a strong stance against ICE.

Mamdani, the Democratic New York City mayoral nominee, retaliated against the threat made by the president calling it, "an attack on democracy."

But this morning, WABC Radio owner John Catsimatidis said on the air that Mamdani WILL NOT be the mayor of New York City - when pressed by the host, John reiterated that Mamdani, who has lived in the US for most of his life, born and raised in Kampala, Uganda until he was seven-years-old before moving to New York City with his family - said again he will not become the mayor.

Keep in mind - he didn't become a naturalized U.S. citizen until 2018.

The former music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has been sentenced to over four years in a federal penitentiary and fined a half a million dollars for prostitution-related crimes tied to his notorious "freak-off" sex parties, which his former girlfriends testified in open court that they were forced to partake in.

The 55 year old former rap star was convicted this past July for two counts under the Mann Act which is a serious crime to transport people across state lines to engage in sex work.

The trial jury found Combs not guilty of more serious charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking under RICO statutes. If he had been convicted of those charges, he could have received a life sentence
Just before he was sentenced, he tearfully acknowledged his past behavior was shameful, disgusting and sick and told the judge he is not the same person from a few years ago.

Outside the courthouse, tempers flared as onlookers started arguing and screaming at each other then making threats forcing the NYPD to move in…

Combs’ legal team played a highly Hollywood produced 12-minute video depicting his life as a family man, loving his wife and children. It ends with the children asking the judge to let their father come home...but that is not happening.

Combs offered multiple apologies, including to his former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura who the world saw the vicious beating she took which was caught on the hotel security camera in Los Angeles.

Mike Leventhal spoke with famed women’s advocate attorney Gloria Allred before and after the sentencing for her take on the outcome. Mike asked Gloria if she was concerned if President Donald Trump would weigh in and offer a pardon to Combs despite knowing he vocally voted for Kamala Harris in the presidential election and wondered what a Trump presidency could look like.

In the end the judge praised the women for speaking out and said a tough sentence was necessary to show the public that violence against women would be punished.

Experts believe the sentencing appeal will not change anything and for the next three years, Combs will serve his sentence in a federal prison yet to be decided with the hope that he truly is rehabilitated and becomes the father he claims he wants to be.

So now that Eric Adams has dropped out of the mayoral race, the questions are what will happen next.

The mayor blamed his campaign’s inability to raise funds, pointing at the city’s Campaign Finance Board for denying him nearly four million dollars in matching public funds, which prevented him from running a high stakes campaign needed to compete in an unusual race.

Then the rumors, whispers and denials that the Trump Administration was floating an ambassadorship or agency position to the former NYPD captain if he bowed out. All of that fizzled out when Adams sank in the polls while Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, former Governor Andrew Cuomo remained consistent and republican candidate Curtis Sliwa vowed to stay in the race.

This summer, Mike Leventhal caught up with mayor Adams while making her rounds in the Hamptons and insisted he would stay in the race and raise his social media game - Mike has known and covered the mayor for over 25 years and saw a different look in his eyes - one of uncertainty and frustration.

So, the word is that President Trump will start to put heat on Curtis to drop out something that Curtis told Mike he will not do…

Mike Leventhal asked Lee and his wife, the former Miss Tennessee USA Kimberly Payne, about what it is like now as he performs his hit song on stage when performing throughout the U.S.

When Lee Greenwood wrote God Bless The USA back in 1983, he told us that it was the keeping of promise that he had made to himself.- to write a song that was inspiring for the nation

And after the September 11 attacks in 2001, the song found a new cause and purpose - reaching near the top of the Billboard Top 100 chart and was soon certified by the Recording Industry of America in July of 2015, signifying 1,000,000 copies had been sold.

With America celebrating its 250th birthday next year, the 82 year old performer says he is more motivated than ever and has big plans for all of us.
