The incident happened shortly before 9 PM as a group of passengers followed the man down the stairs from the subway on 31st Street where they saw him go into a TJ Maxx store.
When he tried to exit a group of men blocked the door so he couldn’t leave. People complained it took more than ten minutes for police from the 114 precinct to respond to the 911 call for help. Police eventually put the man in an ambulance.

Governor Kathy Hochul claims reported gun violence across New York State has continued to decline, reaching the lowest level since the state began tracking this data in 2006. New statistics released by the State Division of Criminal Justice Services show a 15 percent decline in shooting victims and a 9 percent drop in shooting incidents with injury from January 1, 2025, through April 30, 2025, compared to the same period last year, in communities participating in the State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative. Analysts are quick to state that the numbers are down from extreme highs over the past seven years so it’s illusionary.
