Monday, May 26, 2025 - Queens NY: An emotionally disturbed man was tracked down by subway riders who saw him exposing himself to young children on the N train on Monday night. The incident happened shortly before 9 PM as a group of passengers followed the man down the stairs from the subway on 31st Street where they saw him go into a TJ Maxx store. When he tried to exit a group of men blocked the door so he couldn't leave. People complained it took more than ten minutes for police from the 114 precinct to respond to the 911 call for help. Police eventually put the man in an ambulance. There has been an increase in violence and shoplifting throughout the broughs particularly in Queens. Governor Kathy Hochul claims reported gun violence across New York State has continued to decline, reaching the lowest level since the state began tracking this data in 2006. New statistics released by the State Division of Criminal Justice Services show a 15 percent decline in shooting victims and a 9 percent drop in shooting incidents with injury from January 1, 2025, through April 30, 2025, compared to the same period last year, in communities participating in the State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative. Monday, February 17, 2025 - Astoria, Queens: By APB Staff Field Team Residents of this quiet Queens neighborhood woke up on Sunday morning to discover five cars had their tires slashed overnight. The crime took place along a block by the intersection of 42nd Street and 23rd road. The location is just one block from the famous Christo’s Steakhouse. At least two residents have already reported the slashing to Police in the 114 Precinct with others expected to do the same. One victim identified as Joe told ABP News that when the NYPD arrived, the officer refused to write a report because he couldn’t see the punctured holes in the tires. However, Joe showed APB the receipt for the replacement tires he had to buy. Another resident's SUV sustained more than $500 dollars in damage to the vehicle’s tires. Last week, six cars were vandalized with flat tires on Sound Street and 23rd Road. The victim also tried to file a police report but the dispatched cops said they couldn’t see any damage so they wouldn’t take one down. The cops said they thought that someone just deflated the tires and not slashed them but the car owner had the tires inflated and saw it lost air within 15 minutes but the police already left. Also, At least two people had their car tires slashed near Astoria Park - A tow truck driver who picked up the vehicles said it is part of an ongoing problem. Eli Barreto, with Country Wide Auto Collision, said he has towed several cars with slashed tires from the same spot on Shore Boulevard at the intersection with Astoria Boulevard South over the past several months. Barreto confirms there are knife slashes on the side of each tire. APB observed a house with many security cameras facing booth streets that might have captured the vandals in action. APB has been knocking on the door of this residence for two days with no response. APB has reached out to the 114 Precinct for an explanation as to why a detective has not been assigned this case as well to DCPI in Manhattan for comment. The former president, Donald Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up an alleged affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels and which could have influenced the 2016 presidential election. Presiderning judge Juan Merchan gave the 12 jurors their instructions this morning, then they went to work. During the day, the jury asked for testimony readbacks which will take place on Thursday morning. The scene outside the courthouse was calm and somewhat jubilant throughout the day with the NYC Police Dept and FBI outnumbering Trump supporters who were penned off in the park. This was quite different from Tuesday when famed actor and president Biden supporter Robert De Niro held a news conference to denounce Trump which led into a shouting match with MAGA supporters. April 30. 2024 - Morningside Heights, NY: By APB Staff Crew DEVELOPING STORY Hundreds of New York City police officers descended on Columbia University Tuesday night to clear out the dozens of pro-Palestinian student protesters and outside groups who were on campus protesting the war in Gaza. The protestors along with demonstrators have been calling on schools to divest from companies doing business with Israel which many experts say is complicated and not really possible. The NYPD assembled around 9 PM and then entered Columbia's campus at the request of the university's president, Minouche Shafik, who authorized the NYPD to "clear all individuals from Hamilton Hall and all campus encampments." Within 30 minutes, police officers entered Hamilton Hall and zip tied the protesters hands behind their and led them off to awaiting buses to be processed. The school newspaper reported that members of the NYPD drew their hand guns when inside but that has not been confirmed. In a letter to the New York City Police Department on Tuesday, Shafik — who is facing mounting pressure to resolve this prior to graduation day - requested that officers maintain a presence on Columbia's campus "through at least May 17th to maintain order and ensure encampments are not reestablished." APB has been gathering footage all night long and has viewed posted videos showing officers shoving and dragging protesters. One protester could be seen falling down a set of steps outside of Hamilton Hall. A statement from a Columbia spokesperson said officers entered the campus at the university's request. "After the university learned overnight that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalized, and blockaded, we were left with no choice," the spokesperson said. The action at Columbia on Tuesday came on the 56th anniversary of a similar clearing of an occupation of Hamilton Hall by civil rights and anti-Vietnam War protesters in 1968. As all of this unfolded, the NYPD was also called in to stop protests at The City College of New York, part of the City University of New York CUNY system. APB witnessed protesters in a standoff with officers outside the college's main gate, just blocks away from Columbia, and officers shoving some as they cleared people from the street and sidewalks. CCNY President Boudreau requested the NYPD to enter its campus, in part, as he explained in a letter to the NYPD posted online, because protesters had refused to take down a Palestinian flag they'd affixed to the campus flagpole. The flag was replaced by the American flag later at night.

Thursday, June 29, 2023 - Midtown Manhattan By APB Staff Writer Two months after a $400 million renovation and the grand re-opening oif Tiffany's on Fifth Avenue, an electrical fitted this morning saw smoke billowing out og 727 Fifth Avenue inside the landmark building. Two people who most likely worked in the basement area of the electrical system were taken to the hospital but their conditions are not known. Con Edison employees and NY City emergency workers inspected the electrical vault and believed it started the fire. The first floor has a massive showroom and store. There are ten floors total - half of which are open to the public. In a statement, a Tiffany's spokesperson said: 'This morning prior to store opening hours, an electrical fire broke out in the basement on the periphery of the Tiffany Landmark on Fifth Avenue in New York City. 'The fire has since been put out and we are working with the New York Fire Department to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our employees and clients.
