On a hot NYC Summer afternoon, the NYPD was out in full force watching the crowd as well as boxing champion Floyd Mayweather who was in town to promote his next prize fight.
Mayweather (46-0, 26 KO) started his remarks to the 1,500 fans on hand by thanking the fans and media and all of that, but mere moments later, he had turned against everyone. As fans waved challenger Marcos Maidana signs and chanted for the Argentine fighter, who gets a second shot to knock off Mayweather on September 13, in Las Vegas, Floyd’s reel character came pouring out, as he offered to bet Maidana’s purse that he would beat him again in the rematch.
The event started almost 90 minutes late with no apology from the boxers nor the circus-like event staging company.
The NYPD reported no incidents of note.
