Two months after a $400 million renovation and the grand re-opening oif Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue, an electrical fitted this morning saw smoke billowing out og 727 Fifth Avenue inside the landmark building. Two people who most likely worked in the basement area of the electrical system were taken to the hospital but their conditions are not known.
Con Edison employees and NY City emergency workers inspected the electrical vault and believed it started the fire.

The first floor has a massive showroom and store. There are ten floors total – half of which are open to the public.

In a statement, a Tiffany’s spokesperson said: ‘This morning prior to store opening hours, an electrical fire broke out in the basement on the periphery of the Tiffany Landmark on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

‘The fire has since been put out and we are working with the New York Fire Department to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our employees and clients.

The store was expected to open later today following inspection by the Fire Marshal.  This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
