Video footage shows two plainclothes detectives punching, kicking, and kneeing Brown. He was slammed into a glass shelf, which shattered, and then dragged through the broken glass.
Brown sustained a broken nose, a black eye, and various contusions. He required 27 stitches in his legs and face.
The NYPD confirmed the detectives were part of a “planned and supervised” undercover drug operation but targeted the wrong person because he “matched the description” of a suspect.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the video as “deeply disturbing”. The two detectives involved have been placed on modified duty, and their guns and shields have been removed pending an investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau.
