Tuesday, June 17, 2025 - Lower Manhattan - New York City comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court after he linked arms with a person that authorities were attempting to detain. The person Lander was walking out of the courtroom was also arrested. Lander had spent the morning observing immigration court hearings and told reporters that he was there to “accompany” some immigrants out of the building after their hearings. Lander’s detainment comes a little more than a month after Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on a trespassing charge outside a federal immigration detention center in Newark. The charge was later dropped by interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, and Baraka’s fellow Democrat, Rep. LaMonica McIver, was charged with assaulting and impeding federal agents stemming from her role at the same visit as the mayor. A federal indictment charges she grabbed, pushed and blocked officers from arresting the mayor. She’s denied the charges and said she plans to fight it. Baraka has since filed a federal lawsuit against Habba alleging false arrest and malicious prosecution. A spokesperson for the FBI deferred comment to the Department of Homeland Security, which did not respond to the media's inquiry. President Trump’s Border Security Czar Tom Homan met with the Mayor in Manhattan to press him for a higher level of cooperation and to re-open Rikers Island to ICE agents to establish a base camp. Adams said he would issue an executive order allowing federal immigration agents to operate on Rikers Island, sparking immediate outrage from elected officials and advocates who said it violates the city’s sanctuary laws, which bars its cooperation with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It appears from the DOJ’s dropping of Adam's case, that the Mayor will comply with President Donald Trump’s effort to find and deport undocumented migrants in the five boroughs, starting with those who are accused of crimes. President Trump has reportedly grown impatient with the low numbers of deportations and wants the effort ramped up. NYC Mayor Eric Adams Agrees to Re-Open Rikers Island for ICE

December 31, 2024 - Midtown Manhattan: By APB Field Team On Monday afternoon, New York State governor Kathy Hochul visited the Marcy Correctional Facility where about a half-dozen uniformed New York State Department of Correction officers on December 9 were seen on security cameras viciously beating inmate Robert Brooks - clearly showing him being punched in the face and body while being stomping on being handcuffed with his legs shackled in the infirmary. Brooks was serving a 12-year prison sentence for assault, seems to to be unconscious and unresponsive through most of the beating. He was later taken to an area hospital, where he died the next day. In Midtown Manhattan on Monday late afternoon, Hawk Newsome, co-founder, of BLM Greater New York City, and his sister Chivona Newsome spoke at a rally outside Governors Hochul’s midtown office calling for justice in the death of Robert Brooks The APB News team was on site to witness the demonstration - the NYPD reported no arrests or issues. “We understand that the governor went to visit Marcy Correctional Facility. That’s not enough. That’s not enough. We need jail time for these officers,” Rev. Kevin McCall told the crowd assembled on Third Avenue. “We are demanding that every single person, every single officer that had anything to do with the attack be fired and arrested,” McCall said.
