The former music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has been sentenced to over four years in a federal penitentiary and fined a half a million dollars for prostitution-related crimes tied to his notorious "freak-off" sex parties, which his former girlfriends testified in open court that they were forced to partake in.

The 55 year old former rap star was convicted this past July for two counts under the Mann Act which is a serious crime to transport people across state lines to engage in sex work.

The trial jury found Combs not guilty of more serious charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking under RICO statutes. If he had been convicted of those charges, he could have received a life sentence
Just before he was sentenced, he tearfully acknowledged his past behavior was shameful, disgusting and sick and told the judge he is not the same person from a few years ago.

Outside the courthouse, tempers flared as onlookers started arguing and screaming at each other then making threats forcing the NYPD to move in…

Combs’ legal team played a highly Hollywood produced 12-minute video depicting his life as a family man, loving his wife and children. It ends with the children asking the judge to let their father come home...but that is not happening.

Combs offered multiple apologies, including to his former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura who the world saw the vicious beating she took which was caught on the hotel security camera in Los Angeles.

Mike Leventhal spoke with famed women’s advocate attorney Gloria Allred before and after the sentencing for her take on the outcome. Mike asked Gloria if she was concerned if President Donald Trump would weigh in and offer a pardon to Combs despite knowing he vocally voted for Kamala Harris in the presidential election and wondered what a Trump presidency could look like.

In the end the judge praised the women for speaking out and said a tough sentence was necessary to show the public that violence against women would be punished.

Experts believe the sentencing appeal will not change anything and for the next three years, Combs will serve his sentence in a federal prison yet to be decided with the hope that he truly is rehabilitated and becomes the father he claims he wants to be.

Just days after a mass shooting took place outside and inside of 345 Park Avenue at East 52nd Street, New Yorkers are trying to get back to a sense of normalcy.

The shooting left four people dead including an off-duty New York City police officer and a number injured. Detectives from the NYPD Crime Scene Unit remain at the building studying the layout and trying to get a better sense of how the incident took place.

Two shattered lobby windows were boarded up in the wake of the violence created by 27-year-old Shane Tamura, who opened fire first in the lobby and then on the 33rd floor of the office complex before fatally shooting himself in the chest.

Detectives now say there was a second note left in Tamura's Las Vegas apartment addressed to his parents, which might offer more of an explanation of why he did this - offering an apology.

The NYPD said at a series of news conferences that Tamura's gripe was with the National Football League who is based in the building - stating he was angry with the league with head injuries sustained by players over the years claiming he sustained the same brain injuries when he played high school football.

Among the victims was NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who had been working a private security detail inside the building when Tamura entered and opened fire in the lobby.

Islam’s death shook the police department to its core that this happened as off-duty officers are allowed to accept private security work with permission from the department.

An emotionally disturbed man was tracked down by subway riders who saw him exposing himself to young children on the N train on Monday night. The incident happened shortly before 9 PM as a group of passengers followed the man down the stairs from the subway on 31st Street where they saw him go into a TJ Maxx store.

When he tried to exit a group of men blocked the door so he couldn't leave. People complained it took more than ten minutes for police from the 114 precinct to respond to the 911 call for help. Police eventually put the man in an ambulance.

There has been an increase in violence and shoplifting throughout the broughs particularly in Queens.

Governor Kathy Hochul claims reported gun violence across New York State has continued to decline, reaching the lowest level since the state began tracking this data in 2006. New statistics released by the State Division of Criminal Justice Services show a 15 percent decline in shooting victims and a 9 percent drop in shooting incidents with injury from January 1, 2025, through April 30, 2025, compared to the same period last year, in communities participating in the State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative. Analysts are quick to state that the numbers are down from extreme highs over the past seven years so it's illusionary.

Residents of this quiet Queens neighborhood woke up on Sunday morning to discover five cars had their tires slashed overnight. The crime took place along a block by the intersection of 42nd Street and 23rd road. The location is just one block from the famous Christo’s Steakhouse. At least two residents have already reported the slashing to Police in the 114 Precinct with others expected to do the same. One victim identified as Joe told ABP News that when the NYPD arrived, the officer refused to write a report because he couldn’t see the punctured holes in the tires. However, Joe showed APB the receipt for the replacement tires he had to buy.

Another resident's SUV sustained more than $500 dollars in damage to the vehicle’s tires.

Last week, six cars were vandalized with flat tires on Sound Street and 23rd Road. The victim also tried to file a police report but the dispatched cops said they couldn’t see any damage so they wouldn’t take one down. The cops said they thought that someone just deflated the tires and not slashed them but the car owner had the tires inflated and saw it lost air within 15 minutes but the police already left.

Also, At least two people had their car tires slashed near Astoria Park - A tow truck driver who picked up the vehicles said it is part of an ongoing problem.

Eli Barreto, with Country Wide Auto Collision, said he has towed several cars with slashed tires from the same spot on Shore Boulevard at the intersection with Astoria Boulevard South over the past several months. Barreto confirms there are knife slashes on the side of each tire.

APB observed a house with many security cameras facing booth streets that might have captured the vandals in action. APB has been knocking on the door of this residence for two days with no response.

APB has reached out to the 114 Precinct for an explanation as to why a detective has not been assigned this case as well to DCPI in Manhattan for comment.

This is an ongoing case that APB will stay on top of.

It's been a whirlwind week for New York City Mayor Eric Adams following the Justice Departments dropping the federal corruption charges against him. President Trump’s Border Security Czar Tom Homan met with the Mayor in Manhattan to press him for a higher level of cooperation and to re-open Rikers Island to ICE agents to establish a base camp.

Adams said he would issue an executive order allowing federal immigration agents to operate on Rikers Island, sparking immediate outrage from elected officials and advocates who said it violates the city’s sanctuary laws, which bars its cooperation with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

It appears from the DOJ’s dropping of Adam's case, that the Mayor will comply with President Donald Trump’s effort to find and deport undocumented migrants in the five boroughs, starting with those who are accused of crimes.

President Trump has reportedly grown impatient with the low numbers of deportations and wants the effort ramped up.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams Agrees to Re-Open Rikers Island for ICE

APB News has learned that Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old who was denied bail in last week’s murder of a health insurance executive in Midtown Manhattan, was reported missing to San Francisco police last month by his mother, Kathleen Mangione, who made the report to the San Francisco Police Department on Nov. 18, according to a police source with knowledge of the case.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Mangione had been in San Francisco or if his mother had reason to believe he was or just could not reach him and became concerned.

Mangione is now being detained by police after being arrested on Monday at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s for questioning in relation to Wednesday’s shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He was arraigned in Pennsylvania on gun charges late Monday. As the NYPD arrived in Altoona, he was charged with murder in Manhattan in connection to Thompson’s killing and then denied bail by the judge.

The spirit and focus of the parade was on solidarity rather than celebration.

For this year, the event was renamed “Israel Day on Fifth Avenue” and continued to be among the largest gatherings in support of Israel around the world.

The New York Police Department told APB News that they were organized and prepared to deal with protests by providing extra layers of security, barricades, metal detectors with special crowd control officers.

The few protests were blocks away and there were no reports on arrests or disturbances.

Parade organizers said that there were close to 100,000 marchers including 10,000 spectators and 200 participating schools and synagogues. The New York City Mayor's Office confirmed these numbers.

With the deadly October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, the parade started out somber and serious and then after the hostage families were far ahead up Fifth Avenue, a festive atmosphere - with marching bands, floats and music - closed out the parade.

As nearly 100,000 demonstrated Jewish unity up Fifth Avenue, the tone reflected eight months of war, with 120 hostages still held by Hamas, and growing global antisemitism.

Over 70 family members of the hostages led a group of roughly 2,500 marchers representing the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a group advocating in Israel on behalf of the kidnapped,

APB News talked with members of the delegation of 70 hostage family members of different nationalities and religions, including Hamas captivity survivors to discuss their frustrations and grief.

Usually a jubilant celebration, the annual parade now in its 59th year was clearly more somber in the wake of the October 7 atrocities to start the parade but then changed to more music and dancing to celebrate Israel to conclude the parade.

On October 7th, thousands of Hamas-led terrorists stormed over the border with Israel and killed 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and kidnapped 252.

The unprovoked attack was the deadliest in Israel’s history and likely the bloodiest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

The conflicting emotions witnessed during the parade route were evidenced by the smiling faces of bystanders who quickly burst into tears upon seeing families of hostages marched by.

After Manhattan prosecutors and Donald Trump's defense lawyers delivered almost 10 hours of closing arguments on Tuesday, the case is now in the hands of the jury.

The former president, Donald Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up an alleged affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels and which could have influenced the 2016 presidential election. Presiderning judge Juan Merchan gave the 12 jurors their instructions this morning, then they went to work. During the day, the jury asked for testimony readbacks which will take place on Thursday morning.

The scene outside the courthouse was calm and somewhat jubilant throughout the day with the NYC Police Dept and FBI outnumbering Trump supporters who were penned off in the park. This was quite different from Tuesday when famed actor and president Biden supporter Robert De Niro held a news conference to denounce Trump which led into a shouting match with MAGA supporters.

Earlier today, conservative artist Scott Lo Baido who is known for his patriotic work, was so angry with De Niro's remarks, that he spent the night in his studio to recreate a scene from Raging Bull with the former president knocking out the Academy Award actor.
Lo Baido told APB News he could not sit by and let this just go away.

DEVELOPING STORY

Hundreds of New York City police officers descended on Columbia University Tuesday night to clear out the dozens of pro-Palestinian student protesters and outside groups who were on campus protesting the war in Gaza.

The protestors along with demonstrators have been calling on schools to divest from companies doing business with Israel which many experts say is complicated and not really possible.

The NYPD assembled around 9 PM and then entered Columbia's campus at the request of the university's president, Minouche Shafik, who authorized the NYPD to "clear all individuals from Hamilton Hall and all campus encampments."

Within 30 minutes, police officers entered Hamilton Hall and zip tied the protesters hands behind their and led them off to awaiting buses to be processed.

The school newspaper reported that members of the NYPD drew their hand guns when inside but that has not been confirmed.

In a letter to the New York City Police Department on Tuesday, Shafik — who is facing mounting pressure to resolve this prior to graduation day - requested that officers maintain a presence on Columbia's campus "through at least May 17th to maintain order and ensure encampments are not reestablished."

APB has been gathering footage all night long and has viewed posted videos showing officers shoving and dragging protesters. One protester could be seen falling down a set of steps outside of Hamilton Hall.

A statement from a Columbia spokesperson said officers entered the campus at the university's request. "After the university learned overnight that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalized, and blockaded, we were left with no choice," the spokesperson said.

The action at Columbia on Tuesday came on the 56th anniversary of a similar clearing of an occupation of Hamilton Hall by civil rights and anti-Vietnam War protesters in 1968.

As all of this unfolded, the NYPD was also called in to stop protests at The City College of New York, part of the City University of New York CUNY system. APB witnessed protesters in a standoff with officers outside the college's main gate, just blocks away from Columbia, and officers shoving some as they cleared people from the street and sidewalks.

CCNY President Boudreau requested the NYPD to enter its campus, in part, as he explained in a letter to the NYPD posted online, because protesters had refused to take down a Palestinian flag they'd affixed to the campus flagpole. The flag was replaced by the American flag later at night.

NYPD Called to Enter Columbia University & CCNY Campuses - Hundreds Arrested #protest #apb_news

There is no doubt that movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was a sexual predator who assaulted and threatened hundreds of women for years, according to their accounts documented by journalists and court testimony, during his years as a powerful and tyrannical Hollywood producer.

Since 2017, the allegations of more than 100 women whose lives were shattered and ruined by his Weinstein's behavior not only put a spotlight on the entertainment industry but all workplaces in all businesses which then elevated the #MeToo movement leading to an overdue review of sexual misconduct and abuse by those in power in society.

Weinstein was convicted of sexual assault by courts in both New York and Los Angeles.

So why did the New York Court of Appeals overturn this conviction?

APB consulted with legal scholars and listened carefully to Weinstein's attorneys who told our microphones on the day of sentencing that while Weinstein might be an ugly figure the trial was unfair - a trial that the lawyers were able to argue to the appeals court that the legal system that applies the law equally to everyone, guilty and innocent - was not applied in such a fashion for Weinstein.

Weinstein's attorneys argued the judge should not have allowed “prior bad acts” witnesses to testify and should not have given prosecutors the ability to question Weinstein about instances of verbal abuse and bullying on cross-examination.

The Court of Appeals agreed with the defense on those points.

In general, evidence that a defendant has poor character or has done bad things in the past is not allowed during a trial. The concern is that the jury will be overly influenced by these prior incidents and may ignore the actual evidence of the alleged crime.

New York judges have a fair amount of discretion to decide what is and what isn’t allowed in court as they try to balance the relevance of the testimony against the prejudice to the jury while California is more strict on what evidence and testimony can be heard.

Weinstein was convicted in 2020 of committing a criminal sexual act and third-degree rape in New York and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Now, In a four to three decision, the New York State Court of Appeals found that the trial judge should not have allowed testimony by four women whose allegations of assault by Weinstein were not previously proved in court or among the charges in the case.

The inclusion of the witnesses could have had an improper effect on the jurors judging Weinstein, the appeals court found.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said it plans to retry the case.
