New York Catholics and visiting tourists flocked to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City as the Vatican announced the election of a new Pope to lead the worldwide Catholic Church consisting of 1.2 billion Catholics. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires is the 266th pope of the Catholic Church and has taken the name of Pope Francis. One hundred-fifteen cardinal electors voted in the papal election that required the new pontiff to received at least 77 votes. Mass was celebrated inside of St. Patrick’s Cathedral as the faithful gave their overjoyed reactions outside. St. Patrick’s Rector the Reverend Monsignor Robert T.
