Veteran Off-Duty NYC Police Officer Killed in Queens Car Crash

Queens, December 10, 2013: A 10-year NYPD veteran was killed when her 2004 Ford Focus exited the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge and flipped over. The accident occurred at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Queens Plaza South and Crescent Street in Long Island City.
Police say Officer Elisa Toro was off-duty and coming off the exit ramp of the bridge when she hit a guard rail and then a cement barrier. The car then overturned and smashed into a vacant storefront at 25-06 Queens Plaza South.
There were two previous fatal accidents at the same site in 2011. The 36 year-old officer from the Bronx, leaves behind two sons, ages 13 and 17.
