Rockefeller Plaza held a viewing party on July 11 for hundreds of fans to come together to watch the semi-final match between UK and Croatia. The 2018 FIFA World Cup is being held in Russia and fans around the world gather in public squares to cheer on their favorite teams.
People arrived early to find a seat in the bleachers as others were in the standing room only section to see who would take on France in the championship. The broadcast was displayed on a jumbo size screen in the middle of the busy Plaza as flags representing all of the countries in this year’s World Cup surrounded the venue.
When time expired in overtime, the Croatian players celebrated on the field, the crowd in New York City reciprocated the excitement while tourists and locals with all different backgrounds shared this experience and the historical victory together.
The NYPD was on hand keeping a close eye on the action and the tourists and reported no incidents.
