The NYPD is analyzing what actually happened this past Friday afternoon in Union Square, how it happened, why and how they handled the immediate chaos and its aftermath. Right now, the police department are identifying teens who damaged property and injured those who came to Union square seeking a gift card and video controllers promised by from social media star Kai Cenat.
Detectives tell APB News that they are looking for additional suspects accused of damaging vehicles during Friday’s chaos in Union Square after a spontaneous giveaway event put together by the popular Twitch streamer which soon turned violent. Cenat, who is one of the most popular streamers on Twitch and has 5.5 million followers on Instagram, distributed a video had announcing a giveaway on his platform with fellow streamer Fanum.
People were seen throwing objects and tearing down nearby construction barricades. Some teens climbed on top of the roof covering the entrance to the Union Square subway station while one woman was spotted climbing up a traffic light and stood on a sign. An unnerving moment occurred when a group let off firecrackers in one section of Union Square Park as arrests were being made, which created panic and false rumors that a shooting had taken place.
Cenat was taken into custody and issued a bench warrant ticket for inciting a riot and unlawful assembly.
This is a developing story!
