More than 100 students at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s New York City campus have joined the nationwide protest against the war in Gaza – on Thursday night setting up an encampment and tangling with security officers.
The NYPD says they were aware of the activities but were not asked to intervene. As major college campuses are increasingly becoming focus points for protests about the war in Gaza, smaller institutions and trade colleges are joining in.
An estimated crowd of 150 pro-Palestine demonstrators forced their way into FIT’s Goodman Center on Thursday afternoon, pushing their way past security guards and school officials, who tried to block them.
Many in the crowd wore masks, carried signs and chanted once they got in the lobby to the Museum. APB witnessed the encampment still alive on Friday morning with little activity.
