APB was one of the first on the scene to witness the aftermath of a New York City undercover police officer shooting a suspect leaving him in critical condition. A second suspect, 26 years old, was arrested.
NYPD cops shot and critically wounded a man in Chelsea on Tuesday, police said. The gunfire erupted near the corner of West 24th St. and Seventh Avenue when police tried to make an arrest in a felony assault case just before 2:45 PM, police sources said.
An NYPD detective and lieutenant with a Homeland Security Investigations joint task force spotted a suspect outside an eyeglass store near the intersection and followed him – a store employee told the NY Daily News “They were fighting and they pushed their way inside – One guy was on the floor and pop, pop, pop, they shot him.”
The incident marked the second police-involved shooting in less than two weeks and the third in just over a month. Police recovered a gun from the 25-year-old suspect and rushed him to a local hospital in extremely critical condition. One officer suffered a minor head injury during the arrest but was not hit with bullets.
The entire incident is under investigation.
