Nearly 270 FDNY personnel, the NYPD, and EMS were on the scene on Thursday night in Astoria Queens to battler a five alarm fire at the First Reformed Church of Astoria in the early evening.
APB News arrived quickly to witness the effort to extinguish the flames which first started in a building next to the church which then spread into the old church – which is considered one of the oldest religious institutions in Astoria, dating back to the 1880s.
Five firefighters were taken to a nearby hospital – their condition was not released as of this morning.
The FDNY confirmed that the fire marshal is now investigating the cause of this devastating fire.
