Midtown Manhattan: Veterans, active military personnel, government officials and thousands of supporters were on hand to march up Fifth Avenue in celebration of Veterans Day – all for a special reason.
Monday, November 11 marked the centennial celebration of New York City’s Veterans Day Parade, which kicked off in Madison Square Park in the morning and ended in Midtown by the late afternoon. Notable participants in the 100th annual parade were legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin, New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, among others, all of whom were waving at the crowd with American flags in hand that also appeared on their clothing.
Another type of celebration took place on the float dedicated to Purple Heart recipients: a marriage between a marine and his sweetheart that was officiated by a pastor with 55 years’ experience and had never done anything like this before.
The NYPD reported no incidents.
