Hurricane Irene Hits New York Metro Area

[flv:/flv/apb_irene.flv 600 440] Hurricane Irene barreled into New York City at a category One storm packing gale force winds of 90-miles per hour that uprooted trees and caused sporadic flooding. As a precaution, the city shut down the entire transportation system on Saturday in anticipation of Irene’s arrival. By Sunday the mandatory evacuation was completed of all nursing homes in flood-prone areas of the city and several surrounding communities area including some parts of Battery Park City in lower Manhattan.
